Life In The Trenches

In a Rage

I haven’t had much time to post lately, but I just HAVE to post a little rant about the Supreme Court’s latest antics.  I know, they are much too serious of an institution to perform ANTICS.  But seriously?  WTF?  In 24 hours, they have cut the Exxon Valdez punitive damages from $2.5 billion (B Billion) to $507 million (M Million) and they have reversed the 30-year ban of handguns in Washington D.C.  WAY TO GO.  Perhaps tomorrow they will reverse Roe v. Wade.  I’m voting Republican for sure in November: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FiQJ9Xp0xxU.  I am so angry right now I am sick to my stomach.

And in an impressive showing of customer service…

I called my car dealership today, as they had back-ordered a part for me when I brought my car in a few weeks ago and I hadn’t heard from them.  I told that to the guy I spoke to.  His reply?  “They probably called you, maybe you just didn’t get the message”.  Wait, what?

Please stop dressing us in maternity clothes.

Please stop making us look like little girls.

Please stop making us look like whores.

Please stop making us look like pregnant little girl whores.

 This has GOT to stop.

Please make clothes that fit, not cloth sacks. Please, PLEASE, use quality fabrics and construction processes. Please don’t mass-produce 300,000 copies in 3 styles, varying only the color. Please stop making this size 8 who works hard to keep herself fit feel fat.  Please give us some options that make us feel like the beautiful, unique beings that we are.  That’s your job.

Please install decent lighting in your dressing rooms. No one needs to see herself in all of her Chicago-pale cellulite glory under flourescent lighting in front of a three-way mirror. Ever. Three backsides?!?! One of mine is more than enough!

Please bring back the days of good customer service, when a salesperson did everything she could to help you (got you a dressing room, checked in on you to bring you a size, gave you advice, offered options) and was wise enough to leave you alone if that was what you needed.

Gratefully,

Chic-less in Chicago

Awareness slammed into me today: successful relationships are so little about finding the right person and so much about being the right person.  How’s that for profound?

If ever there were a reason to eliminate nuclear weapons, the most compelling one may be so that we will never again have to hear our “leader” (yes, the quotes are required) use the term “nucular” again.  Is that even how you spell what he’s saying?  I’m not sure…

Speaking of unnecessary quotes, these guys have found a way to turn one of life’s annoyances into amusement. Brills!

Get Some Headphones!

Oh good GAWD, my stomach is sick.  I’m at the office, and one of the clueless IT dinosaurs that I work with is listening to music through his SPEAKERS because he has NEVER HEARD OF HEADPHONES.  But it gets worse.  He’s got Stevie Wonder Sir Fucking Duke playing!  I’ll tell you why those days ev-er had to end, because that song suck-ed!  Blechhhhhhh!  Blaghhhhh!    Reminds me of the Baby Boomer crap they play when I’m grocery shopping… He’ll probably go Motown next.  Or Earth Wind and Fire.  Oh, sweet Jesus, I was right, it’s Motown!  Some music is classic, and some is just OLD AND OVERPLAYED.

Quick, log in to Rhapsody and play something DECENT.  Ahhhh, that’s better.  Another new favorite: ”Kids With Guns” by Gorillaz, a “virtual” experimental rap/hip-hop band, again from the UK (note a theme here?).   Me likey.

My new favorite band is the Ting Tings. Their song “Shut Up and Let Me Go” is the backdrop for a cool new iPod commercial and their tight, electropop guitars remind me of Razorlight, another Brit band I’ve recently unearthed.  In order to honor them, I may get my hair cut like Katie White.  She’s wicked hot.  Whadya think?  Maybe I’ll go blond too?

I am SO EXCITED!  I just read in Metropolitan Home that the USPS is issuing 42-cent stamps commemorating the work of Charles and Ray Eames.  I just pre-ordered them on the USPS website.  They come out June 17th!  This (sort of) “salves the irritation of the recent rate hike”.

While I’m on that Craigslist topic… I think a really cruel way to break up with a live-in partner would be to take pictures of all of their stuff, post it for sale on Craigslist, then email them the listings.  Harsh.  I wonder if anyone’s ever done that?  I guess it might be called for if he/she, say, slept with your sister or something.

No worries, RB, you have too much stuff for me to photograph.  And I don’t have a sister.  And I still like you.

There’s a home center in Chicago that I am DYING to visit, called “Crafty Beaver”.  The name makes me giggle every time I think of it.  Crafty.  Beaver.  Who thinks of these things?
